Hometown 4th of July Celebration
The 3rd and 4th of July are the best days to be in Malad. The entire town works hard to make sure this is a memorable event for the everyone.
June 27th
6:00 pm Malad's Mini Mr./Miss 4th of July Contest
It's open for kids ages 0 to 36 months. All participants are invited to ride in the parade on July 4th. Participants please show up a few minutes prior to the contest to complete a waiver form.
July 3rd
5:30 pm Children's Parade
Children 12 and under are invited to dress up and decorate their bike, wagon, handcart, non-gas drivable toys in old western or patriotic colors or just come to help ring in our Independence Day.
Line up starts at 5:00 pm on N. Main by the Drive-In. The parade steps off at 5:30 pm and will make its way down N. Main to Bannock and then to the City park, ending in the library parking lot. The total route is less than a half mile.
6:00 pm Snake River New Horizons Band
Join us at the City Park for the Snake River New Horizons Band. The band consists of about 50 members from the Pocatello/Chubbuck/Blackfoot/Lava Hot Springs/Soda Springs area. The band plays a wide variety of music which includes movie favorites, patriotic, marches, concert, rock, oldies and jazz, just to name a few. 2023 will mark their 6th year kicking off Malad's Independence Day activities.

7:00 pm Melodrama
The Malad Theater Guild will be putting on the Melodrama "The Veggie Villain" at the Iron Door Playhouse. Other performance times are Friday, June 30th at 7:00 pm, Saturday, July 1st at 7:00 pm, Monday, July 3rd at 7:00 pm and the final performance will be Tuesday, July 4th at 2:00 pm. This evening's start time is different than what was printed in the newspaper but was corrected by a performer of the Melodrama. It was also listed incorrectly on previous versions of our schedule.
7:00 pm Malad's Got Talent Prelims
Do you have a special talent you would like to show off? Anyone is welcome to participate, you do not need to be a Malad/Oneida County resident to win. Acts need to be 120 seconds or less, and clean/family friendly. You need to register by June 30th. The top 5 from each age group make it to Finals on July 4th. It is suggested that you have a different routine prepared for Finals, that routine can be up to 180 seconds long. The prizes for ages 12 and under are $100 for 1st, $75 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd. In the 13 and over group it is $300 for 1st, $200 for 2nd and $100 for 3rd. Registration info is in the flyer at the bottom of this schedule.

There will be a street dance on Bannock in front of City Hall. For 2023 there will be a DJ spinning 70's music.
July 4th
6:00 am Cannonade
The Malad Fire Department enjoys waking the town up for the 4th of July. Put your ear plugs in the night before if you don't want to get woken up at 6:00 am.
6:00 am Fun Run
Check in starts at 6:00 am in front of Allen Drug on N. Main St. There is a 1 milk run, 5k run/walk and a 10k run throughout Malad. Price is $20 with a guaranteed shirt, if registered by June 27th. It is $25 if you register the day of. There is a family of 5 discount for $90, with each additional member only $10. Kids 3 and under are free. No pets allowed. You can register at: Fun Run Registration Form. All proceeds go to Malad's Distinguished Young Woman Program.
6:30 - 9:00 am Pancake Breakfast
Oneida County Search and Rescue cooks a delicious pancake breakfast for the town which will be served at the pavilion at Malad City Park.
10:00 am Independence Day Parade
Any citizen or business in Malad is welcome to enter a float in the parade. The theme for this year is "Peace, Love & Fireworks." All floats need to start lining up on 300 West by the old high school at 8:45 am. Dignitaries need to line up on 200 West. Judging will start at 9:00 am sharp. Those floats that win will be moved to the beginning of the parade. There will be a Sweepstakes, County Commissioner's Award and a Mayor's Award for the Commercial Float category. In the Non-Commercial category a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be given. In addition one entry will be given the Judge's Award.
The parade route starts at 400 N, 200 W by the elementary school. It goes south to 300 N were it heads east to North Main. It then proceeds south on North Main, with a stop at the Veterans Memorial for the National Anthem and Taps. The parade continues west on Bannock to 300 W then heads north to 400 N, by the elementary school.
11:00 am - 9:00 pm Vendors
There will be a variety of music, activities, food and vendors set up at the park for your enjoyment.
12:00 pm Western Stage Play
For the last 30 years, Malad has enjoyed watching The Sheriff and Black Bart battle it out between good and evil in a shoot out. Well the time has finally come to retire the shoot out. In 2023 it will be replaced with a western stage play at Malad City Park.
12:45 pm Malad High School Cheerleaders
The Cheerleaders will be performing at the park immediately following the Western stage play. Time is approximate, may be earlier, may be later. This is different then what was printed in the newspaper and on earlier versions of the flyer.
1:00 pm Kids Races
Give your child a chance to compete in one of the oldest races in Southeastern Idaho. For over 60 years, kids 12 and under race for prizes and bragging rights. Boys and girls from crawlers to 12 years old race against other kids their same age.
After the kids races, adults have the chance to test their leap frog skills and team up to race for our traveling frog trophy.
1:00 - 7:30 pm Hatchet Throwing, Pickleball, Dunk Tank and Foam Pit
At the park there will be a hatchet throwing trailer (Idaho Enterprise/Malad Drive In), Dunk Tank (Jr. Wrestling), Foam Pit (Malad Fire Department) and Pickleball (Malad Pickleballers) for everyone to enjoy.
1:30 pm Tug of War Tournament
Immediately after the Kids Races we will be a Tug of War Tournament. 8 teams (of 6) will go head to head until one team stands alone. Two age groups: 15 & Younger or 16 & older. Sponsored by Malad Elementary PTO.
2:00 pm Melodrama
The Malad Theater Guild will be putting on the Melodrama "The Veggie Villain" at the Iron Door Playhouse. This will be the last performance.

The Mayor's Youth Council will be offering tie dying at the park.

2:30 pm Water Balloon Fight
Residents of all ages are invited to take part in a huge water balloon fight. Historically it is usually a hot day, so this is a nice way to cool off and have some fun at the same time. Sponsored by Bamma Wamma's and Malad City.

5:00 pm Home Run Derby

A must see high-energy band from Boise, Idaho! Hard hittin' Country and Rock.
10:00 pm Fireworks
The annual fireworks display goes off with a bang the evening of July 4th, in Malad City, Idaho. With the help of our county and city funds, and 18 volunteer firemen, we are really able to put on a great show!! We shoot the fireworks off from the Oneida County Fairgrounds, so parking anywhere around the High School, 300 East, or South Main is perfect for watching. Bring your friends and family for a fun-filled day at the park and the wonderful fireworks in the evening. There's nothing like the 4th of July in Malad City!!
